Review of W Magazine, September 1998 One of the main articles in W September 1998 is a story about designer Helmut Lang, "The Sleeping Giant". The story is written by Bridget Foley, a veteran W and fashion writer. The thrust of the story is that Lang is shaking up the fashion industry by setting new trends (e.g. stretchy Ts in the early 1990s) and altering the tradional fashion collection show schedule. Lang moved his Spring 1999 show to September, and pulled with him Clavin Klein and Donna Karan. W says the Lang is "fashion's current epitome of hip", quite a jump for a designer that Saks Fifth Avenue spokesperson Nichole Fichelis says was merely "marginal" only 10 years ago.
