Review of W Magazine, September 1998 According to W, long hair is back in style, even fake long hair. The fall runways were littered with attachments and extensions to match the long, lean look of the late 1990s casual dress. W notes that even Hollywood is getting in on the long act, as Jennifer Lopez wore wasit-length extensions to the Academy Awards. Do models really need the help? More likely the designers are really showing off their "dress-up-the-doll" skills. Along with the extravagant hair work, W reports that the color purple is back as the desired hue for eye shadow and general prettiness. Maybelline, revlon, and Christian Dior have come out with purple shades are a throwback to the last "99", 1899, at the turn of the century when similar societal optimism and mystery abounded. Purple and prettiness seem to take hold when we are about to enter a new era.
