Review of W Magazine, September 1998
Fashion houses change models annually (except in the rare occasion when a spokesmodel becomes associated with a brand, such as Elizabeth Hurley and Estee Lauder), so it is always fun to see the "musical models game" each year when the supers move around between designers. Prominent in W September98 is a fashion spread for Gucci starring Bridget Hall. Bridget has been modeling since her teens, but this collection really shows off her qualities. The images are black and white, with close-ups of Bridget's austere face and almost gothic frame. Gucci accessories are highlighted by their simpleness and profound command of the space around Bridget's frame.

W September also has a short article about Marie Gillain, the new face for Lancome products. Marie is a young actress who is becoming more well-known in the United States, and will be appearing in the film "Le Diner" with Giancarlo Giannini. The article shows what makes W a great read for the fashion crazy and the fashion naive: writer Daniel Peres is gentle in covering Gillain's youthful innocence and her encounters with the "sharks" of the film business. While Perez doesn't win any awards for investigative reporting, he is successful in giving us the flavor of Gillain's personality without exposing too much of her private life while she is still so young. W is consistently informative and entertaining, and, unlike many of the fashion industry magazines, tasteful.
